Use It Or Lose It – My #1 Problem With Supplements!

Posted In Blog,Muscle Recovery,Postworkout Supplements,Preworkout Supplements,Supplements | 136 Comments »
BY Jeff Cavaliere MSPT, CSCS April 01, 2011

And so we find ourselves at #1! The “Top 5 Biggest Problems With Supplements” series concludes today and with it…an announcement that explains what’s been keeping me so busy these last few months (and has been one of my proudest accomplishments)! But that’s got to wait just another few moments here since I need to get one more thing off my chest!

As you could probably tell in my tone at times throughout this series, there are things that just don’t sit well with me when it comes to the supplement industry. From the creation of “overspecialization” and the perception that you need to take three things for this, two for that, four more for that and one more for this…to the use of dangerous ingredients (with manufacturers knowingly trading your health for their healthy bank accounts!)…to less than honest or knowledgeable advice from health store employees with undisclosed agendas and lack of expertise in the field, to the appalling mystery behind WHY some supplements taste like dessert (because they could be!)…to now…#1 on the list. And this one gets me angrier than any, because this one defies three core concepts that I try to constantly uphold in business and in life. These are trust, credibility, and leading by example.

IF YOU’RE NOT USING IT (THE PRODUCT)…YOU’RE LOSING IT (YOUR CREDIBILITY!)

So let me cut right to the chase and let you in on a industry secret. Many of the guys pictured in the supplement ads spread throughout the magazines you read or the sites and forums you surf online are paid models (not a shock). However, what should be disconcerting is that most of these guys have absolutely ZERO EXPERIENCE WITH THE PRODUCT and no actual intention of ever even trying it!! Yes, it’s actually true.

This situation is just plain ugly and reeks of deception as far as I’m concerned. Again, maybe I’m the one living with unrealistic expectations…but is it really too much to ask that someone asking me to put their product in my body has tried it on themselves first?!? As I’ve promised to you since my very first ATHLEAN-X video was uploaded to youtube almost 2 years ago now…I may never slay you with jokes or the personality of a seasoned stand up comic, I may never have the model good looks (or a consistent 365 day tan) that other fitness company representatives may have, and I may even slightly irritate some with a tad too long intro on those videos (you know who you are!)…but you can always be assured of one thing with me. That thing is transparency.

What you see is what you get guys. The fact that supplement companies could throw millions of dollars into advertising campaigns that they know will generate tens of millions in return by implying (or sometimes even outright stating) that the guys in the pictures got that way by using their products…WHEN THEY KNOW ALL ALONG THEY HAVE NOT…is the lowest of the low to me. In fact, after having this confirmed for me by a supplement exec who told me and laughed as if I was supposed to find it funny and ethical, I became so pissed off that I decided to do something about it!

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO…

I dropped everything I was doing. This very blog that you enjoy reading was put on hold for almost 3 MONTHS! My cartoon alter ego went without a name for so long he was starting to think he was “X-Tinct” for crying out loud! The production of the highly anticipated AthLEAN-XX for Women program was pushed back. The sneaker contest extended on facebook. Hell, even the appearances on facebook for the surprise live Q&A’s that I love doing were slowed to a halt. BUT ALL FOR GOOD REASON!

Having had enough of what I feel is a supplement industry rife with poor choices, overhyped garbage, potentially dangerous options and a general lack of clear, trustworthy recommendations…I spent countless hours in and out of the lab over the last few months (with guys in white coats that are much smarter than me!) perfecting what I feel is the PERFECT approach to supplementation…and now it’s almost here.

I’m introducing here on my blog for the very first time, my ATHLEAN-Rx Sports Supplement Series! Guys, I’ve done ALL the work and research for you on this one! In just 3 formulas (Preworkout, Postworkout, and Recovery) I truly feel that I have managed to deliver everything you could possibly need (including some of the most cutting edge ingredients to hit the market) EXACTLY WHEN YOUR BODY NEEDS IT THE MOST during the training day!

ATHLEAN-RX IS HERE!

And the wait to get your hands on these supplements won’t be very long! Next Wednesday at 12:00 PM EST, AthLEAN-Rx Supplements will be made public! I’ll be sending out more details in the next few days on how you can be sure to secure one of the first shipments as soon as they’re released. In the meantime, see the PS below for a chance to get a one month supply of the series for FREE!

But before I wrap up this series and take supplementation in a direction that I feel is so long overdue…I want to make mention of a recent increase in comments on how my physique has looked bigger, more defined, more muscular in the last few months in my youtube videos than months prior. Remember when I said that I’d NEVER recommend or put my name on anything that I didn’t use myself?

Well, on Wednesday, you’ll be able to copy the exact supplementation plan that I’ve been using during the testing phases and seeing serious gains on (tough to do with so many years of training under my belt by now!) by getting your own ATHLEAN-Rx Supplements! Though at times the work was grueling and the industry research was disheartening (as I’m sure you can now agree), the bright side is that the work is now done and the benefits of it are now at your disposal to be able to push your body to limits you never dreamed possible.

See what has me so proud and excited just a few days from now! ATHLEAN-Rx IS HERE! Stay Strong… Jeff PS. Leave your comment below and tell me why YOU want to or deserve to receive the one month supply of the ATHLEAN-Rx Supplement Series when it’s released next Wednesday at 12:00PM EST and I will be selecting the best answer! Get selected and join the select few who will have the opportunity to see what elite level supplementation can do for your body!

      Hey Jeff,
I have been following you ever since I found you on the web. I’m 52 and have been working out seriously since I was 40. I have tried everything In that time and I mean it. I’ve been around long enough to know that my body is not the same as yours. So how do I know that your stuff is going to be any different than any of that other stuff. Like you said, many can talk the talk, but few can walk the walk…

Hi Jeff, im brasilian and im actually watching your video and lessons for a half year,, and in that time i experienced a lot in this time. I staied sometime with zero suplementation for the last tree months and i can say that in this time i had big changes, i spend that time lossing the fat that i had and studing about nutrition, i can say that now my body is much better then has ever been before. I learned that dont matter what, your nutrition and training are the most important factor, and now i belife i can add in some suplements to make every thing even better.

PS: Im just posting it to say thanks for everything you did and still do for all the athlean comunity, after all, this promotion is for a one month free supplements but the knoledge will last for as long as our hearts keep
    beating.

    hi team athleanX

i’ll try and make it short. over the past 5 years i’ve tried X different programms but athleanX is the only one which i would title “addictiv”. it gets me out of bed @ 5am in the morning and off to the gym. puts a smile on my face after the workout. gives me energy and power to face the day.

over the past 5 months my body has changed, my attitude my life. i’m quieter with the kids, have more patience as a dad and as a husband. nothing on the planet can describe the feeling when your kids look up at you with a big smile and a comment like ” wow dad, your so strong”.
people talk about work-life balance. you helped me find it. thanx guys.

and yes of course i’d love to try out your new supplement. at 39 the 6-pack is almost sculpted but needs more work. i have complete faith in the fact that your new supplement is going to help me achieve my goals.

    kind regards from switzerland

Mate, I have been trying various supplements for a few years. Many without result other than a smaller bank account. I want to try Athlean-Rx as I hope it is different to the rest, like your 90 day program. If you can create supplements that produce results like your program, I may have to ask for distribution rights here in NZ! I am saying “hook me up”, but also, Thank You, for all your hard work & passion.

    Cheers.

PS. I’ll take some ElastX ‘samples’ too! ;-)

Jeff Mate…you are a true legend:)

I’ve just put my currently used protein powder(Macdo milkshake:)) in the bin thanks to your detailed information on the industry behind them.
I started your program, mainly because i was sadly diagnosed with a high cholesterol at the age of 28..they said it’s genetic saying that i’m not fat and have a 10 year pro swimmer background, anyway i got very scared. Until i found your videos on youtube…I just started the 5th week and i’m rockin’. Lost 7 kgs of fat already, sleepin better, feelin more energetic, and stronger… and after all my chol. levels have dropped to normal…how’s that!
So i would like to thank u very much for putting me on the right path. I much appreciate you hard work and wish u all the best!

    Hi Jeff,
You may recognize my name from among the first posts made on this thread. I sincerely wrote that post long before I noticed your P.S. offering a giveaway for the new AthLEAN-Rx supplement line. In reading the responses, I couldn’t help but X-trapolate the nature of your request. After everything you have written, spoken about, and X-emplified about nutrition, X-ercise, and most recently supplements, it is as if no one has truly understood your vision: that there is no shortcut to the dedication and discipline necessary to build the foundation for becoming AthLEAN and a better version of yourself. Supplements, even of the highest quality as I trust yours will be can only help if you have that foundation set in place.

As a single dad who lives a health and fitness lifestyle for himself and for his family, is it X-tremely important to be a living X-ample of that principle, especially when the results are the looks of amazement from your daughters’ eyes of how strong you are. That alone is worth every ounce of hard work, sweat, and sometimes vomit in the gym. To that end, the X-perience of winning your contest would be most X-cellent, and I for one would be X-tremely privileged to win, as the sacrifice for such luxuries as supplements would come at the cost of something else for my family. ThanX for your consideration and I look forward to your continued suXcess in the industry.

    A3,
    Morgan

I’ve been watching your videos forever and just love everything you put together for us. I am also in the process of purchasing your 3 month plan and can’t wait to get started. I’m am so glad to hear that you have made a line of supplements because I am one of those guys that have spent so much money on all kinds of supplements just to be let down. I am sick of having to pay out of my a** for all of these things that don’t work. I am pumped to try these supplements and thank you for all that you have done.

    Hi Jeff,
I have over the past 5 years started working out on a consistent basis, trying different programs and listening to friends. It wasn’t until about a year ago I found your program and decided to try it out. I am glad I did, I have also, watched pretty much every youtube video you have put out. Although I have seen improvements, I have not seen the desired results that I am hoping for.

I am going off to medical school and therefore have little cash to waste on stuff that won’t work. So I spend a lot of my money on cheap supplements or those that I can afford. It would be a great honor to receive athlean-Rx as it sounds that it would help me get the desired results that I am looking for. It would, also, be able to show all my friends and family how much the product works and be a walking advertisement. I have already gotten a bunch of people interested in athlean-x just from what I tell them and how they see me workout.

Again thanks for everything and I hope that you pick me,
    Chip

    Hey Jeff,
The biggest problem I have with my workouts is what I’m assuming is tendonitis in my elbows. (base of my tricepts and bicepts) At times I can barely brush my teeth or lift light objects the day after a workout. This hinders me so much because I need several days recovery time after a workout. I tried just taking a couple months off to just rest but it didn’t help. I’ve been trying different supplements to see if I can help recovery time, though my tight budget hinders me there too. I don’t know if yours will help with this or not, but I’d love to try it.

However, workouts aside. Maybe you’ll have pitty on me because like you I’m a longsuffering Mets fan with no hope in sight any time soon. Give me something to get excited about man, I need it.

Keep up the good work bro. Lets go Mets.
    Aaron

After years of people telling me to eat eat eat then train train train and seeing no definition what so ever I got sick of it. Yeah I was strong but I also had a big gut big butt and chubby cheeks.
I wanted more out of my body. I want that 6 pack. After trying different supplements, bad supplements that made me gain more weight, up to 215lbs and 20% body fat about 18 months ago.
I worked very hard last summer and got down to 165 and 15% body fat. By this time i was still working out but not seeing the results I wanted. I wasn’t eating well. I was on a “diet” that I thought would be good for me but was not helping my hard work in the gym. So that went down the drain like all diets and got back up to 180.
Then last fall I found Athlean-x and started doing some of the workouts on the youtube channel. After following youtube and the blog I finally decided to get the program about 5 weeks ago. I love it! After these first 5 weeks I can feel my muscles growing and am starting to see more definition and veins. I am still 180 but have lost about 3% body fat (so now I am around 12-13%).
Now I need that little extra edge. I want the Athlean body. I love the program and will follow Jeff wherever he takes me.

    Here’s the deal,

I have tried both the cheap Walmart supplements and one of the expensive GNC supplements ($80 for 5 lbs!!!!) and neither have done the job. I follow the Athleanx program religiously and I can say that if I had supplements that were produced by the man himself, then my body will really become the temple it’s suppose to be.

So heres my challenge to you Jeff; Prove to the world that your supplements are what you say they are, by letting me show everyone what they are capable of.

    Do you accept?

    Hey Jeff
I have been through lots of crap on the internet, on youtube, and on DVD’s and even VHS cassettes before that. I tried it all. To cut a sob story short, I was a massive kid, in the worst sense. I made Yokizuna look Athlean….ok, maybe not. But I was always the heaviest kid. And with alot of discipline, I ended up losing most of the weight. But the last 10 pounds of pure flab never left. And all I have wanted for years is to get rid of that. From counting calories till starving myself completely, to eating 6 small meals a day, nothing 100 percent worked…Until I tried Athlean-X. I have been on it for the last 3 weeks and it has really changed my life. In another month, I am predicting my long awaited six pack, and I know you know your stuff, so any supplement you recommend me, I am going to get, whether I get it for free or whether I have to go to hell and back to get it
    I owe you big!
    Thanks

The next step is to correct my dieting. I believe that my pre workout, and post workout supplements have me wondering whether or not i should have purchased them in the first place. Hi Jeff,

While you have put back developing your program for women, I believe that women should workout just like men. The exception of course is the amount of the weight used. When it comes to supplementation, often this is an area where women are left out. I’d like to be your “lab experiment” to see how your line works for women. Currently I am working on putting on muscle mass for an event where upper body strength is an advantage and area I am weak on.

I would love to buy athlean x, but I would like to be able to watch everything on video instead of reading it online. I can’t take it to my weight room if I don’t have a computer there. I believe that you would have even more buyers if it were portable in a disc. I like the way p90x does the video, but I like your exercises and intent much more. I have been watching your YouTube videos and you could add the new videos that you have to the dvd’s as well. I think that athlean x is a great program!

    Hey Jeff,
I am a 16 year old boy who is active in many sports. I compete in swimming, cross country, track, and my favorite pole vault. Recently I decided to take up weight lifting to increase my power, so I can go the extra mile. I missed state in swimming by about 1 whole second…and if there’s anything out there that could get me to that level, I would try it out. I just started using your free videos to make some workouts for me and my best friend ( in the same sports) Lately we have been looking into supplements and can’t decide which one is best for us, will work, and we can afford. So, if what you say is true about your supplement I would def love to try it.

    JCav,

I’ve been working out now since I was 15, now im 21. When I first started working out I just took protien because my football coach basically shoved it down my throat and he tried to make me use other stuff but I refused. I think the only time Ive been out of the gym longer than a week was when I went to boot camp. But, for the longest time I couldn’t find the right workout system that would help me build muscle and still stay athletic. It seemed like all I could find was how to get big and brick-like. Once I stumbled across AX about a year ago I went nuts, bought the system, and still try the new workouts you throw out right away. Anyways, the reason I never wanted to use supps was because I always ate pretty well, but now that I’m in the Navy and don’t have a kitchen in my barracks and the ship food sucks, I think I need to start using them and, well, I trust that this new stuff you have is pretty dialed-in.
Can’t wait to try it out. I think its’s great what you got going on here.
    Thank you.

I understand that the stuff that’s in there is the best you can get out there and the research you’ve done is worth a lot and I thank you for the educational videos. But I think that the prices are a bit steep. $65 for 1lb of the post-workout product is too much I think and if I add overseas shipping it’s simply too expensive for me to use on a regular basis :-(

      Hey Marc….

That’s always the catch-22. Unfortunately, when it comes to ingredient selection and the process of making sure that the high standards that you deserve are met when it comes to choosing what you put into your body, the price tag is going to be more. That said, it always comes as a result of quality, and for me…quality is not something I’m looking to skimp on when I’m talking about something ingestible!

      Stay strong,
      Jeff

Each protein supplements are able to see results obviously but it only comes too more or less. As Marc said it cost above our expectations. Due to its new debut on the market it should be lower. I hope your product will truly meet our expectations and really help out the ones who is looking for a high quality supplement like me. Nowadays too many supplements on the market, we dont even wanna know whats inside the protein supplement because its disgusting. Thank you.
