If you watched the Grammy Awards last night, you probably noticed ex-Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland’s super sexy red carpet dress.  While today a number of entertainment news outlets are talking about whether her revealing Grammys gown was dress-code appropriate, what I want to talk about is how she got that killer figure!  And let me tell you, with her incredibly fit body, she definitely pulled off that dress!

Just a week earlier, she reunited with Destiny’s Child band mates Beyoncé and Michelle Williams to perform during the Super Bowl  XLVII Halftime Show.  After this performance, the Twittersphere was talking all about Rowland’s amazingly toned arms and thighs!

Just how does 32 year old Kelly Rowland stay in such fantastic shape?  Let’s find out!

Kelly works out with celebrity trainer Jeanette Jenkins, who has also trained P!nk, Serena Williams and Alicia Keys.  Together Rowland and Jenkins produced a workout video last year called Sexy Abs.  Jeanette Jenkins has a motivational style and is quoted as saying, “Allow yourself to be a beginner. No one starts off being great, we all have to put in the work to achieve our goals.”

kelly rowland grammy awardsAt this stage in her life, Kelly Rowland is certainly no beginner to fitness.  She’s been working out with Jeanette Jenkins for three years, and works out 5 days per week.   Jenkins tells Essence magazine that Kelly Rowland achieves her figure by striving to be healthy rather than skinny.  She works on all muscle groups in her body, rather than focusing in on just a few spots.  Her workouts include circuit strength training similar to our Athlean-XX for Women workouts, as well as yoga and Pilates.

Circuit strength training is a very important part of Kelly’s workouts, because they allow her to achieve the incredible muscle tone that made her look so fantastic in the bodysuit she wore for her Super Bowl XLVII performance…not to mention the incredibly sexy gown she wore at last night’s Grammys with cutouts in the abdominal, hips and thighs areas.  This dress she donned for the Grammy Awards literally showed off every single one of the usual ‘problem areas’ for women – only Kelly Rowland’s figure was completely flawless.

kelly rowland superbowlOf course, as with any woman, Kelly needs to stick to a healthy diet to achieve her physique.  Jeanette Jenkins states that Rowland eats plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables, as well as lean proteins, very similar to what we recommend in our Athlean-XX for Women Nutrition Plan.  Kelly Rowland follows what Jenkins refers to as the “80/20 rule,” striving to eat clean and healthy at least 80% of the time.  Another way to think about healthy eating is to heed Athlean-XX for Women program creator Jeff Cavaliere’s advice.  Jeff says, if you’re eating 35 – 42 meals per week (that’s right – we recommend women eat 5 – 6 times per day), “getting only one or at most two of these ‘wrong’ will still leave you at a damn near percentage of perfection!”

So how can you get a tight, fit body like Kelly Rowland?  Follow her healthy example. The celebrity-style crash diets that some Hollywood stars follow will only cause yet another yo-yo, because as soon as you return to your normal eating habits the lost weight will come piling back on.  What is really needed is a LIFELONG solution to both diet and fitness that fits seamlessly into your life.
